Line 2 of 3 PRIOR-YEAR RETURN REVIEW $149 · ONE RETURN REPORT IN 5 BUSINESS DAYS

What did your last return miss?

A past year, read line by line: what was missed, what it is worth, and whether you can still claim it. If the return was clean, the report says so.

What I look for

The things that get missed in a hurry.

aCredits and deductions you qualified for and never claimed
bThe wrong filing status. Head of household is missed constantly.
cSelf-employment deductions: home office, mileage, equipment, the QBI deduction
dCarryforwards, cost basis and depreciation that drifted from year to year
eA Virginia return that does not match the federal one
Which years can still pay you back

Three years are open. The rest are worth checking for a different reason.

2023–2025Open. This is where refunds come from.
2022Only if you extended to October 2023, and that closes this month.
2021 and earlierClosed for refunds. Still worth checking for errors that affect what you owe today.

Federal law gives you three years from filing to claim a refund. I would rather tell you that now than take $149 for a finding you cannot use. A review is a report and a recommendation, not a filed return; no refund is promised, and whether a year stays open is governed by IRC §6511.

How it runs

Which year should I read?

Only the open years can still pay you back. I will review a closed year too, and tell you what is still actionable.
